A fabulous figure on the Japanese nightclub scene today, Diana started performing in drag when she was a university student back in mid-90s at the “Electric Eyelash” party. A third generation drag queen, Diana is described by the first generation as a genius. She performs regularly at "Diamond Night," the oldest drag queen party in Japan, which has been still running since 1989. After a long period of her career as an entertainer at the dance club and success, she started new career as an "hostess " in a night club in Ginza, the most infamous nightclub scene in Tokyo, where she is the only drag queen in attendance.
“A 70s maniac,” Diana possesses an enormous knowledge of divas including Barbra Streisand, and Diana Ross. This photograph was taken the evening she performed Barbra Streisand's "The Girl from Ipanema.” Her unique talent has taken her to stages in Paris, Berlin, and other countries.
With more than 10 years of education in law, sociology, media studies, cultural studies and art criticism in Japan, Tomoaki Hata started his career as a photographer in 1996 at Japan's ground breaking HIV/AIDS benefit dance parties and with candid still photography of Japan's gay porn industry. Hata's photography is part of Collection Lambert, the contemporary art museum in Avignon, France. Hata’s work has been shown in "AKIMAHEN" and "EIJYANAIKA," the biggest exhibition of Japanese young artists in France, including Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Ono, Nobuyosi Araki.
