Nicky the Jazz Cat is back—just in time for the holidays—this time sharing his jazzy version of Christmas. Nicky’s Jazz Christmas contains more charming photographs of Nicky, accompanied by the rhyming, swinging text that has been the hallmark of the award-winning Nicky The Jazz Cat series.

“I’ve worked with the best cats around, and Nicky is one of a kind! This sweet and soulful jazz cat followed his dream and came out a winner. I love him and so will the kids! This is a beautiful and swinging celebration for all.”
—Quincy Jones

“Nicky the Jazz Cat teaches young people about humor, improvisation, and individuality. His swinging adventures with his special jazz friends will inspire and delight children as they learn. Nicky is one cool cat!”
—Wynton Marsalis

Carol Friedman, a New York portrait photographer who specializes in photographs of people in the arts, has been widely published in books and magazines here and abroad, and her classic photographs of recording artists appear on hundreds of jazz, soul, and classical CD covers. Friedman conceived her first children’s book, Nicky The Jazz Cat (powerHouse kids, 2005), as an homage to her magnificent cat Nicky and the one-of-a-kind jazz musicians who continue to inspire her work.

The original Nicky book led to a book and music series which includes companion music CDs featuring child-friendly jazz by renowned musicians. The Nicky collection has garnered numerous awards, including the Benjamin Franklin Book Award, iParenting Media Book and Music Awards, Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Award, NAPPA Book Award, and the American Library Association’s Notable Children’s Recording Award.

Author of The Jazz Pictures, (Arena, 1999) the critically acclaimed retrospective of her photographs of jazz artists, Friedman is working on a new collection of portraits, and directing and producing a documentary feature film on singer Abbey Lincoln. She is a volunteer author with Learning Leaders, Authors Read Aloud, and frequently reads Nicky The Jazz Cat to public school classes throughout New York.
