A man finds a seashell and it tells him to do things, some bad, some good … An adjunct professor decides he doesn’t want to teach at the community college anymore, he begins a journey into the underworld, his dog at his side … A giant eagle egg is found lying on the lawn, it shakes and continues to grow larger, and larger … Let’s out go on a date with someone who has little tiny tigers in their blood … Let’s make love to a severed head … A man is crushed with a car and asks a personal favor of the driver, he wants to run some errands around town before he dies—cash this check at the bank, pick up stamps at the post office, go with you on your job interview … Double Bird. Vivid. Odd. Hurtful. Unloved. Wet with dew. Out of its mind with joy.
About the Readers.
BRIAN ALAN ELLIS runs House of Vlad Productions, and is the author of three novellas, three short-story collections, a novel, a book of humorous non-fiction, and Sad Laughter: A Totally Unessential and Demotivational Guide to Reading, Writing and Publishing (forthcoming from Civil Coping Mechanisms Press). His work has appeared at Juked, Hobart, Funhouse, Monkeybicycle, Electric Literature, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Fanzine, and Queen Mob’s Tea House, among other places. He waits tables in Gainesville, Florida, and tweets sad and clever things via @brianalanellis and @HouseofVlad.
JANE-REBECCA CANNARELLA, a garage witch living in West Philadelphia, is the editor of HOOT Review and Meow Meow Pow Pow Lit, and a former editor at Lunch Ticket. Her chapbooks Tiny Thoughts for Tiny Feelings and Unicorn Tracheotomy were published by BA Press many moons ago. When not poorly playing the piano, she chronicles the many ways that she embarrasses herself at youlifeisnotsogreat.com.
KERI SMITH grew up in Florida before moving to New York to earn her MFA in creative writing from the New School. Her first book, Dragging Anchor, is out not on Hanging Loose Press. She bartends in Brooklyn.
BUD SMITH is the author of the short story collection Double Bird (Maudlin House) and the memoir WORK (Civil Coping Mechanisms), among others. His next novel, Teenager, is forthcoming from Tyrant Books in the spring of 2019. He works heavy construction in New Jersey, and lives there too.
