The Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop was founded in 2002 by novelist Julia Fierro, and what began as eight writers meeting in the kitchen of a Brooklyn brownstone has developed into a creative home for over 15,000 short-story writers, novelists, memoirists, essayists and poets worldwide.
Classes meet in NYC and Online, and Sackett Street writers live in all boroughs of New York City, and across the world.
Alumni have won and been nominated for the literary world’s most prestigious awards, including the National Book Award, the Booker Prize, the Pen America Literary Awards, Lambda Awards, National Book Critics Circle Awards, NYPL Young Lions Awards, and many more, and have been accepted at nearly every MFA in Creative Writing program worldwide. Books by Sackett Street writers have been NYT, national and international booksellers and have been translated into many languages. Hundreds of Sackett Street writers have published short fiction, essay and poetry collections, novels, memoirs, and graphic novels with both commercial and independent presses, and alumni write, teach, and edit in all branches of the literary world.

About the Authors.

Heather Aimee O’Neill is a poet, a teacher, and the assistant director of the Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop. She lives in Brooklyn with her wife and two sons. The Irish Goodbye, a national bestseller and Read With Jenna Book Club Pick, is her first novel.

Your Behavior Will Be Monitored is Justin Feinstein’s debut novel. He has previously written about jazz for the Associated Press, about the UFC for VICE, and about being a celebrity doppelgänger for Salon. Justin works as an editor and writing coach, and is an instructor for the Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop. He was a Berklee-trained professional hand percussionist in a past life and performed, recorded, and taught music for ten years. More recently, Justin earned an MA in media studies from The New School. He lives in Los Angeles.

Hailing from California, Sarah G. Pierce moved to New York to study photography at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and later, earned a master’s degree from NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts, where she specialized in minimalist painters. An avid 49ers fan, she lives in Manhattan with her poker-playing husband, whom she met on a dating app, and their two sons. For Human Use is her first novel.
Erin Crosby Eckstine is an author of speculative historical fiction. Her debut novel JUNIE was selected for the Good Morning America book club. JUNIE is a Goodreads Choice Award 2025 nominee in historical fiction and finalist in debut novel, an Audie Award finalist in Fiction, and one of the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Best Southern Books of 2025. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Eckstine grew up between the South and Los Angeles before moving to New York City to attend Barnard College. She earned a master’s in secondary English education from Stanford University and taught high school English for six years. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner and their cats.
Julia Fierro is the author of four novels. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Julia founded The Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop in 2002, now a creative home to over 15,000+ writers and named “New York City’s best writing class” by Time Out New York, the L Magazine, and Brooklyn Magazine; and a “Top Alternative to MFA programs” by Poets & Writers. Her work has been published in The New York Times, Poets & Writers, Buzzfeed, Glamour, Psychology Today, and other publications, and she has been profiled in The Observer and The Economist.
