TROLLEYOLOGY documents Trolley Books’ first decade in publishing and celebrates the legacy of the company’s founder, Gigi Giannuzzi. Featured participants include Nina Berman, Alex Majoli, Robin Maddock, Jarret Schecter, Carmine Galasso, and Joan Liftin.
About TROLLEYOLOGY:
Since they were founded in 2001, Trolley Books has been highly regarded as a maverick independent publisher of photography, reportage, contemporary art and recently, literature. Trolley’s founder Gigi Giannuzzi became a well-known figure in the worlds of photography, art and publishing for his original and dynamic approach to photobook publishing, his dedication to support important and underexposed stories, as well as personally as a one-off, unique spirit. However following the tenth anniversary of Trolley and aged 49 he was diagnosed with cancer, and passed away on Christmas Eve 2012.
Shortly before he died work began on TROLLEYOLOGY, to celebrate the first ten years of the award-winning books and authors brought together by Trolley. A chronological anthology of the best from each publication, with behind the scenes and previously unseen material, personal photos, contact sheets, letters and interviews with the photographers, writers and artists Trolley has worked with over the last decade. The book contains a foreword by Directors of the Serpentine Gallery, London, Julia Peyton-Jones and Hans Ulrich Obrist, with an introduction by cultural historian Barry Miles.
TROLLEYOLOGY will bring together many renowned contributors including Nan Goldin, Magnum photographers Philip Jones Griffiths, Alex Majoli, Paolo Pellegrin, Chien Chi Chang, Thomas Dworzak, as well as Stanley Greene, Nina Berman, Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, Tom Stoddart, and YBA artists Sarah Lucas, Damien Hirst and Mat Collishaw. It also features interviews with Trolley authors and a host of names from the worlds of photography, art and publishing, documenting the unique stories behind each book, and the importance of this small but potent publishing house as it celebrates both its first decade and the legacy left by Gigi Giannuzzi for the future.
