New indie art book publisher Crop Circle Press is pleased to announce its second publication, Ryan Bock: I am not funded by the CIA. Come celebrate with us on February 8th! Ryan will be in conversation with Ágnes Berecz. The evening will feature performances by Sam Mewton and Moment of Terror, as well as screenings of short films by Red Expanse as well as Lewie and Noah Kloster.

The publication is richly illustrated with over seventy color photographs and will be signed and editioned out of 100.

Can art still hold the transformative power of truth and change for its viewers if it has reached a point in time of being presented as pure commodity? How can an artist untether their practice from the art market? These are the central questions of Ryan Bock’s most recent body of work, presented at Ki Smith Gallery in 2022.

Bock, known for his immersive installations and severe, angular, grayscale works, presents here a range of paintings and sculptures as well as his celebrated Ode to Duchamp: a Liar, a lifesize chess board that encapsulates the element of mischievousness and play that laces this otherwise politically-charged body of work.

This forthcoming publication includes a foreword by curator and writer Akeem Duncan, an essay by publisher Naomi Falk, an in-depth interview with curator Ágnes Berecz, and stills from an accompanying experimental film by 22/Red Expanse.
